Introduction

Let’s kick things off by talking about your rights! Every child around the world has some special rights, and these are all spelled out in something called the “United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.” It’s like a big promise from lots of countries that they’ll make sure child rights are protected.

All these rights are super important, and no one can take them away from children. That means you have the right to be safe and protected from anything that could hurt them, like abuse, neglect, or being taken advantage of. SOS Children’s Villages is committed to upholding these rights for children and young people.

General Information

About rights of children & young people to stay safe & the duty of SOS Children’s Villages

SOS Children’s Villages is committed to protect children’s rights and create a safe and supportive place where children & young people can build strong, trustworthy relationships and be the best they can be. SOS Children’s Villages lays out everything they promise to do to keep children and young people safe in a document called the “Child and Youth Safeguarding Policy”.

Child and youth safeguarding is all about SOS Children’s Villages making sure they take every possible step to keep their staff, everyone who works with them, and all their programs from doing anything that might hurt children and young people or put them at risk. And if something does go wrong, they promise to deal with it in the right way. Harm can come from things like abuse, neglect, or being taken advantage of, and SOS Children’s Villages is determined to prevent it.

Youth Participation in Safeguarding!

Children and young people have the right to be part of everything that affects them, especially when it comes to staying safe and decisions affecting their lives. It’s important for them to know their rights, understand how SOS Children’s Villages keeps them safe, and be aware of the ways to report and get help if they need it. They believe that children and young people are the real experts in their own lives, so they want to hear what you have to say about what might be risky or how things can be made better. When children and young people are part of creating a safe environment, it helps SOS Children’s Villages do a better job in understanding the needs and making sure their programs work well. This way, everyone can have a safe and supportive place to grow up.

Some ways you can get involved and participate in safeguarding and raising awareness on their rights are:

You have the right to be safe.

If you have suffered abuse or neglect, report it.
